Panjavadyam, literally meaning an orchestra of five instruments, is basically a temple art form that has evolved in Kerala. Of the five instruments, four -- timila, maddalam, ilathalam and idakka -- belong to the percussion category, while the fifth one, kombu, is a wind instrument.  (Read More..)

  Jalahalli Panjavadya Sangham was established in 2008 at Jalahalli (Banglaore, Karnataka State, India) . It was one of the major achievements of setting up a Panjavadya sangham outside Kerala.  The entire credit of such an accomplishment belongs to G.Shankara Narayanan Potti - An Ardent art lover, who was the Chief priest of Jalahalli Sree Ayyapa Temple.   The Sangham was set up under the guidance of eminent artists Mattannur Shivaraman and Cheruthazham Gopalakrishnan.

 The Sangham is performing the Panjavadyam in and around Bangalore.  Apart from Panchavadyam, Sangham performs, Thayambaka, Chendamelam, Kelikottu and arranges contemporary Kerala art forms like Kadhakali, Koothu, Kodiyattam etc..
